About Us

Our Plan
Our focus is to provide a community of support to young girls in Seattle throughout the ACL recovery process. The goal is centered around our mentorship program, connecting girls through our website to help make the recovery process less daunting and isolating. With the support of Seattle-based PTs, we have also created a Q&A board that can be used to receive responses from real PTs (instead of the internet) about important questions regarding recovery.
Our Purpose
The moment that you learn you've torn your ACL can be incredibly overwhelming and life-changing, especially to young athletes. It's the beginning of a yearlong recovery process, that is both physically and mentally challenging.
Our website works to help breakdown the process and make it seem less daunting by providing information and opportunities to ask questions to licensed professionals and peers.
Our mentorship program aims to support the mental side of recovery by pairing up girls who have/are going through the recovery process and create a space to empathize and relate with others.

Our Story
I have played competitive sports for my whole life, specifically soccer and track. After tearing my ACL playing soccer, I was able to immediately ask my previous PT, doctor, and teammates for their knowledge and support regarding the timeline and injury. Their support helped me work through the diagnosis and determine exactly what graft to get, the timeline of sports seasons, and key points of the recovery process. The goal of EmpowerACL is to give all teenage girls in Seattle the same supports, even if they don't have pre-existing relationships with doctors/PTs, or teammates who have experienced the same injury.
